Hi! I’m Dr. Bernice Teplitsky, but you can call me Dr. T. As you may have noticed, I practice dentistry a bit differently than most general dentists. Research shows that dental problems can lead to other medical problems. As a holistic dentist, I care about your whole health – not just your oral health. I focus on preventative oral care to stop problems before they develop and work with your physician or other practitioners to coordinate treatment, so that your whole body is cared for.

I’ve been in the dental field since I was 16 years old and got my first job working as a dental assistant in Highland Park, IL. I graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and a certificate in Gerontology (treatment of the aging population). After I graduated from Marquette University’s School of Dentistry, I completed a general practice residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center here in Chicago. Working at a hospital setting, particularly working in the emergency and operating rooms, gave me great surgical experience with very complex cases. It also taught me to be a partner with my fellow medical colleagues. So, I love to intertwine dentistry with other fields of Eastern and Western medicine.

Soon after graduating, I discovered holistic dentistry and started visiting my dental colleagues all over the country, learning how they practice holistic dentistry (also known as biological dentistry, nutritional dentistry, and integrative dentistry). I saw how they were able to cure patients with chronic diseases by using nutrition, biocompatible dental materials, and removing toxins from the mouth. I was hooked. I thought it was so special to help people feel vibrant, energetic, and disease free because of improvements made in their dental health. I noticed that people who took care of their mouth tended to be healthier all-around. The patients who focused on improving their oral health started seeing changes in other areas of their health, body, and daily life. My goal became to make all my patients healthier through superior dental care.

Of course, I think that dental treatment is a two-way street. I give my patients resources to learn about what’s going on in their mouths. But it is their responsibility to put forth the effort for a healthy mouth. We provide an entertaining, and educational blog, newsletter, host events, and give lectures about dentistry to help people understand the importance of oral health. Whether or not you’re a patient, you’re welcome to browse the site and learn more about holistic dentistry.

I’m also a member of the following dental organizations:

When not in the office, I enjoy yoga, hiking, traveling, photography, meditation, and spending time with my husband and two young daughters. I’m also fluent in Russian and Spanish.

If you’re ready to come see a holistic dentist that cares about your entire health as much as you do, come to Chicago’s neighborhood of Lakeview and check out Wrigleyville Dental. Even if it’s just to visit and say “hi,” we’ll be waiting for you with a smile and a cup of tea.

You can also call 773-975-6666 or email us info@WrigleyvilleDental if you have additional questions or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment. I’m looking forward to meeting you in person.
